Enameled Pennies Bracelet

I love the idea of torch firing enamel and had a bunch of (pre 1982)pennies so I decided to try it out on the pennies.

I loved how the first batch of pennies came out - and love working with that size,they are like a miniature canvas - so I kept using pennies to torch fire enamel.

I made a bracelet with shades of turquoise - but used all pennies. I have since branched out - adding beads to the bracelets and started making earrings using the pennies, too.

The torch fired enamel bracelet project: This step by step project by author Barbara Lewis is really cool even if you don't enamel beads. You can use up some pretty orphan beads in your stash to make this one.

Thank you all so much for all the kind comments.

I have a more detailed description of how this is done on my blog mrsbeadsley.blogspot.com - and as far as the melting point of pennies, it's a little over 1900 degrees farenheit.

To be successful when torch firing enamel onto the pennies you have to make sure you use pre 1982 pennies - the pennies mades since 1982 are only clad in copper and are mostly zinc - which will melt all over everything and make a huge mess!

And are pennies really made out of solid copper or an alloy?
