I bought some German silver from the store the other day, and lost the recipt. It says it is silver plated.

I was told by another person that I trust that it isn't silver plated, it just looks like silver.

I used it for a necklace to wrap a pearl cluster and when she wore it in the shower, it turned color.

What exactly do I have? Should I use it or use it for practice wrapping?
