Stretch cord for abrasive beads?

I typed this question once before, and pressed the wrong key and it evaporated into thin air, so if you see it twice... sorry about that!
My question is: I am looking for a super duper durable stretch cord for bracelets that I want to put together with natural elements that are quite abrasive. What would be the best thing to use? I've seen something that looks similar to a hair rubber-band (not the rubbery type) on some bracelets, and it could be tied as well. Where can I find this, and what is it called?
