Buy the best tools you can afford

Definitely buy the best tools you can afford. It will end up costing you less in the long run. I've thrown out at least a dozen pliers before I bit the bullet and bought some great quality Lindstroms which have made all the difference in how much ease, and how much pleasure I get from making jewelry.

As a beginner though, at $45-$75 a pair, I wouldn't suggest that quite yet. For half the price, you can get some good German box-joint pliers that are almost as good as the Lindstrom top of the line.

Here is a perfect tool set for a beginner wire worker or for anyone stringing or making earrings of any kind. You need tools that cut, make loops, twist loops open, and close them up without twisting out of shape or marring. Of course you also need pliers to just hold onto the tiny bits too.
