Repairing Silver Jewelry

by John Asher
(California)

I have a silver ring with a set stone, and the ring became bent.

What is a good way to straighten it without risking the setting?

Bent silver ring

This is what has worked for me in the past, mind you the band was thin.

Place the ring on a non-grooved ring mandrel and slightly hammer it with a leather or nylon hammer until the shape comes back.

Just don't wack it, because it could crack the band. Yeah, I did that once, lesson learned. Hope this helps.
