Making Names With Sterling Silver Wire

I want to make some name necklaces with sterling silver wire.

I want to use 20 gauge wire but I'm not sure if I should use half hard or dead soft.

Can you help?

Wire Names

To write names with wire, you should use 18g dead soft.

20 gauge is too wiggly even when you use hard wire and 18g will work harden fairly quickly, but is soft enough to allow you to make smooth curves in your letters.

I would use dead soft, but the preference is really up to you. Either should work. If I were using dead soft, I would harden the wire name afterwards with some light tapping with a rawhide hammer on a rubber block.
