How to Make a Longer Hemp Necklace

I'm making a necklace for my brother and need a little help on finding the length of the twine.

It's for a crucifix he got for confirmation but he doesn't want it to be 'girly'. So his necklace is going to be longer than the listed lengths on this website.

I measured, and the length my brother wants is 27 1/4 inches.

For a 20 inch necklace I would need 2-ten foot pieces of twine. How much longer of a piece would I need for the length specified above?

The right length of twine
by: Christine

I'm assuming you are talking about a hemp necklace? If you need 2-10 foot lengths of twine for 20 inch necklace, I would hazard a guess at lengthening the twine to 2 - 14 foot lengths... Maybe 15 foot lengths to be safe.

My thinking goes like this: if 2 x 10 feet = 20 inch necklace, 2 x 20 feet would be a 40inch necklace, therefore 15 feet would be good for a 30 inch necklace.

Good math no? ;-)
