How to Attach Crystals to Flat Leather Bands

by Eunice
(SA)

I have been asked to make beaded/crystal brow bands for horses, but I am not sure what the best way to attach them is? I have tried gluing but the brow bands are flat and smooth.

What is the best glue to use?

Strong Glue for Crystals
by: Christine

I'm not sure what a brow band is - what material are we talking about? Leather?

Without knowing what you are gluing them onto, I can't definitively say, but E-6000 (available at craft stores and beading stores) works pretty well to glue most anything.

If that doesn't work for you, try some 2-part epoxy from the hardware store (come in a double-syringe type tube).

Forget the Glue, I am a Horse Person...
by: Trish

I've had horses for 35 years and they are incredibly destructive. Glue will come off.

You either need to sew your beads directly to the leather, or you can sew onto thin garment leather and wrap that around and sew it.

Some browbands have inlaid bead-work, where the beads are set in a browband that is 2 layers, with a channel cut in the middle for the beads to set in.
