Drill A Hole In Glass?

by Linda Carlson
(Virginia)

Has anyone successfully drilled a small hole into glass?
If so, what drill bit/tool did you use?

I have round, flat glass pieces about l/8 inch thick rounds that I want to drill. The concept is to then attach a bail, or insert a jump ring to create a pendant.

Thanks in advance.

Drilling Glass
by: Cathy

You can drill into glass but you will need a diamond drill bit. You also want to keep the glass under water when you drill it. You can use any electric drill as long as you can keep the water away from the motor. A flexible shaft is ideal.

Take your time and don't put pressure on the glass. It will break if you try to push through it. Remember to stop and get the ground glass out of your hole after a couple of minutes.
