It does work with gold filled wire? I was afraid with it having a different metal inside that the balled part might not be gold colored?

Balled Headpins by: Shirl
I'm new to jewelry making. One thing I learned on my own is when you are holding the silver wire to make a balled headpin, hold it straight and above the flame so the ball forms in the middle and not off to the side.

Balled Headpins - Which Metals? by: Christine
You can make balled headpins out of copper, sterling silver, and gold filled wire... at least those are the metals I've successfully used with a butane torch or a propane torch.
I've tried brass, nickel silver, and steel with no success at all. I can't get the wire hot enough with butane or propane.
If you have an oxy-actylene setup you might be able to... anyone have experience with those?
The switch knot is a decorative lacy macrame/ hemp jewelry knot that helps you save on twine too. This tutorial shows you how to tie one with clear pictures and instructions.
A sliding knot is a wonderfully easy way to end off a leather, string, hemp, or corded necklace or bracelet. It looks neat and stylish, is a very practical closure, and is very easy to make.
