I was only doing one knot. If you try doing it twice that might work.

Hey, try not pulling so tight on the string. It will loosen up the tension.

You aren't making it clear what type of material you are using, but if it is string, which it sounds like it is, you are probably making it too tight on one side.
Try to weave with more even tension.
It may be happening in the rest of the bracelet too, but the amount of fabric or string there is the more it makes the mass more solid.
If it's wire, then you are making it narrower on one side than the other.
