Beginner's Jewelry Making

I would like to know the best place to start learning how to design and make jewelry.


If it is videos or books, can you recommend some? Any suggestions would be great.

Candice,

I would suggest looking online and in the bookstores to decide what TYPE of jewelry you'd be interested in learning first - such as wire work, seed bead work, string beads, precious metal clay, mixed-media jewelry, etc.

Once you'd decided what type (or types) of jewelry you want to learn, do a Google search and you will find Youtube channels you can watch to learn to create your type of jewelry, websites that offer books, video tutorials and all sorts of other resources.

For basic bead stringing, wire work, metal stamping and things like this I suggest logging on to Beaducation.com and watching some of their free tutorials.

Several bead and supply companies have website pages that offer written instructions and have free design inspiration and tutorial pages such as:
Artbeads.com
Magpie Gemstones / Szarka Carter (free online videos)
Fusionbeads
Fire Mountain Gems
Nina Designs
Just to name a few to start with.

Magazines, such as BeadStyle, Step by Step Wire, Bead and Button, Art Jewelry, and several others also have websites with tutorials online.

And, JewelryLessons.com run by Eni Oken, offers very inexpensive tutorials by jewelry crafters from all over the globe that you can download and print out from your computer.
